Floyd Edward “Shep” Shepard, 88, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

Floyd was born April, 28, 1928 in Bland, Mo., to the late Fleet and Gertrude (Martin) Shepard. On Sept. 30, 1948 he married the love of his life, Edith Janice (Myers) Shepard, who preeceded him in death on April 25, 2013.

Mr. Shepard was a 1945 graduate of Ashland High School and attended the University of Missouri. He retired in 1990 from the Lima News after 32 years, where he worked as the foreman of the composing room.

Floyd enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing Nintendo DS and spending his Saturday nights watching Lawrence Welk, the Game Show Network and Molly B’s Polka Show.

He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and was a member of Bath Community United Methodist Church. Floyd enjoyed spending winters in Florida. In recent years, Floyd’s daughters would take him to Missouri to enjoy a Cardinals ball game at Busch Stadium, visit classmates in Ashland and spend time with high school friend, Ola Mae Taggart.

He was a United State Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Floyd was blessed with three daughters, seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Bluelick Community United Methodist Church in Lima, Ohio. Burial followed at Bluelick Cemetery.
