Donald Jones     1937-2017

Donald Eugene Jones, 80, went home to be with his Lord on February 21, 2017. He was surrounded by his family, who are saddened with their loss but joyful that he is now laying his crowns at Christ’s throne.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation on Friday, February 24 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Robinson Funeral Home 601 North Henry Clay Blvd., Ashland, Missouri. Funeral service will celebrate his life on Saturday, February 25 at 10:30am at Goshen Primitive Baptist Church at 500 West Cedar Tree Lane, Hartsburg, Missouri.

Don, “Donnie” or “DJ,” was born to Marvin Harris and Anna Mae (Angelo) Jones in Ashland on January 1, 1937. He married his high school sweetheart Lora Ann Wren on September 20, 1958.

Don was a member of Goshen Primitive Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 29 years. He was the last-surviving Charter member of the Ashland Optimist Club He was an inaugural member of the Southern Boone Baseball Hall of Fame. Donnie graduated from Ashland High School in 1954 and received his Education Administration Masters degree at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He retired from public school service after 30 years as a coach, teacher, and principal with 8 years at Ashland and 17 at Wright City. He enjoyed several years as a Walmart Associate after retiring.

His greatest enjoyments in life were Cardinal baseball, Missouri women’s basketball and volleyball, and taking his grandchildren to the park. He also spent many cool spring days and hot summer evenings at grandkid’s sporting events where he was their biggest fan.

Don is survived by his wife, three children: Mark (Kim) Jones of Columbia, Lyle (Shelly) Jones of Wentzville, and Susan (Cory) Blackburn of Ashland; seven grandchildren: Paige, Samuel, Madeleine, Kylie, Clarice, Ethan, and Gavin; two brothers: Kenneth of Brandon, Florida and Cletes (Bonnie) of Centralia. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glenn.

Memorials in his memory may be given to Goshen Cemetery
