Carol Marie Helmich Diederich, born August 28, 1927 in Femme Osage to Emil and Irene Helmich, passed away at her home on November 15 in Hartsburg, Mo., with family and dear friend Teresa by her side. Carol Marie grew up with a strong and dedicated faith in Christ, and remained a faithful member of Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Ashland, Mo.. Carol Marie graduated from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing on August 20, 1948 and received her Registered Nursing license on October 20, 1948. Later in life, she achieved her Bachelor’s Degree. Carol Marie worked as a school nurse for many years of her life before retiring.  

She married her late husband, Calvin Charles William Diederich, on February 10, 1951. They welcomed four sons into their family, Calvin Charles, Stephen William, James Henry, and Robert Emil. In passing, Carol Marie joins her husband, Calvin Charles, her son, Charles, her daughter-in-law, Ruth, her parents, Emil and Irene, her sister, Emily, and her brother, Herman (Bud). Her life will be remembered and cherished by her sister: Gwendolyn Lohman of Memphis, Mo.; children: Stephen and wife Cathy of Hartsburg, Mo., James and wife Sharon of Hartsburg, Mo., Robert and wife Kathy of Hartsburg, Mo.; grandchildren: Daisey Diederich of Stet, Mo., Justin and Danielle Skouby of Hartsburg, Mo., Luke and Sarah Barnett of Hollister, Mo., Zachary and Erin Diederich of Hartsburg, Mo., and Karl and Jessie Grosse of Hermann, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Carol Marie will be remembered for her love of gardening, walking, and reading. She was known to her family for making the best garlic dill pickles, fried chicken, and fried bluegill caught fresh from the pond in Defiance. She loved capturing the lives of her family on video, and there’s many family videos of her narrating our cherished memories. Carol Marie made every holiday and birthday special by creating moss nests for Easter and baking angel food cakes for birthdays. Carol Marie was most happy when spending time with her family and being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jackson, Rylie, Nora, Nathaniel, Abigail, Elsie, Hattie, and Opie. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Melle, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 408 S.
