CARL THOMAS LONG

Carl Thomas Long, 82, of Ashland, passed away September 2, 2016 at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Carl was born March 18, 1934 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Rex and Alliene Crone Oakley. He married Lena Heuer on April 19, 1978 in Ashland. Carl was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, as a weapons specialist. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Carl loved his family, was a collector of many things, a history buff, loved playing the piano and working on clocks. He retired as a Factory Representative with Wolverine Boots in 1997. He was a member of the Board of Aldermen for the City of Ashland for 28 years. Carl was a lifetime member of the Ashland Optimist Club, NRA, Missouri Conservation, Ashland American Legion and the VFW.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Robinson Funeral Home with burial following in New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Survivors include: His wife, Lena; Five sons, Curt (SueAnn) Long of New Bloomfield, Lindell Lee of Harrisburg, Leslie (Debbie) Lee of Ashland, Allen (Angela Acton) Lee of Ashland and Aron (Jennifer) Lee of Bayview, Texas; One sister, Talma Lafferty of Quincy, Illinois, One niece, Cathy Bale of Springfield, Illinois; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
