The Boone County Commission appointed Art Auer to the position of interim County Clerk on Tuesday during their regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting.

Auer has been a member of Clerk Wendy Noren’s staff since 1984. He will be the interim clerk until Gov. Eric Greitens appoints Noren’s replacement.

Auer has served as the Director of Elections and Voter Registration since 1986. According to a county press release, he has worked in all facets of the Clerk’s office.

“The Boone County Commission has full confidence in Art’s ability to see Boone county and the Clerk’s office through this time of change and thanks him for his willingness to step into this role,” stated the release.

Noren resigned last Thursday after 35 years as the County Clerk. She cited her failing health as the reason for her resignation. Her last day will be this Friday.

“In recent weeks my health has deteriorated rapidly and there are no viable treatment options available,” Noren said last week. “To continue trying to do my job will only place an additional burden on my family, my staff, and the other elected officials.
