LEAD STORY: School Board discusses growth, future building projects

The Primary school is currently at capacity, but the school board and administration are committed to keeping classroom sizes small.

Primary School Principal Brandy Clark said “We are dealing with the Kindergarten class fine, you will never hear me say growth is a problem. It is a challenge, but we appreciate the school board hiring two more Kindergarten aides.”

The discussion came during the regular monthly meeting of the SoBoCo school board on Monday at the Middle School annex.

Plans to move Parents as Teachers, PAT, to the middle school building to open one more classroom were discussed; though, the board and administrators are concerned for the 2019-2020 school year. The Primary School will need a 9th section for both Kindergarten, and 1st grade in the coming school year.

Board Member Joe Miller advocated for the district to move quickly.

“If we need two classrooms this year, we’ll just need four the next year,” Miller said. He suggested moving the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten building expansion forward.

Other board members agreed.
