Ashland residents took to Facebook last week to voice their irritation over the city’s new trash plan.

The City of Ashland recently changed the trash service, along with its vendor Republic Services.

The City chose a new contract which allowed for no increase in costs, but cutting trash pickup from twice each week to once a week.

“I’m paying the same amount and they come less. Now more charges?” asked resident Kandis Lee. “Not cool.”

Lee was referring to the option of paying an additional $6 per month for a second trash roll cart.

“We took the option of keeping the cost the same and personalizing the service,” said Ashland City Administrator Lyn Woolford. “Not everyone needs twice-a-week trash service, so those who do need it can pay more for the extra service.”
