Boone County Commission candidate Fred Parry said this week that he would resign his position as a Trustee Chairman with the Boone Hospital Board if he is elected to the Southern District seat.

Parry, who faces Democrat Brianna Lennon in the Nov. 8 election, changed his stance on the issue to avoid “potential conflict.”

The hospital board is currently in the process of negotiating a new management contract. Four companies plus the current BJC management are involved in the bidding process. It is expected that a new contract will be recommended to the Boone County Commission for approval by the end of the calendar year.

Parry and Lennon are seeking the seat held by longtime commissioner Karen Miller. In multiple debates, Parry has noted Lennon’s lack of experience and knowledge of Boone County.

However, Lennon has avoided tangling with Parry, citing her job as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division. She says she will push to establish a county drug monitoring program to combat opioid drug abuse.
