At just after 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, an explosion rattled windows and dishes throughout Southern Boone County. Two fire trucks were dispatched to Log Providence Road after a 911 call from a resident there.

The fire fighters found…..nothing.

There was plenty of speculation – many public Facebook pages were filled with theories and guesses – yet, no one is quite sure what caused such a loud “BOOM!”

Ashland Police Chief Lyn Woolford had no report and nothing to go on. SoBoCo School Resource Officer Trevor Fowler said the Boone County Sheriff’s Department had no official report on the explosion.

One widely accepted theory was that it was a sonic boom from a jet stationed either in St. Louis or Whiteman AFB. Phone calls to Whiteman provided no information.
