Southern Boone High School grad and Air Force veteran Derek Mordica is the new Program Director at the YMCA.

Mordica began working at the Southern Boone YMCA last month and has already been an asset to Director Kip Batye.
“He has come in and been a great fit,” Batye said, “Derek will work hard and tackle anything we need him to work on.”
It’s good that Mordica is described as “hands-on” and a “multi-tool player” kind of employee, because his work portfolio will include everything from fitness to karate to….any program provided by the YMCA.
“We don’t have a fitness instructor right now,” Mordica said recently, “so I am working with that. But I will also be working to maintain other programs as well as future programs we might offer.”
Mordica graduated from Southern Boone in 2006 and after a few semesters in college, went to the Air Force. After serving in Montana, Korea and Whiteman, Mordica was looking to stay closer to home.
