Do you have your new trash day penciled in on your calendar?

Beginning Monday, the City of Ashland trash service – contracted to Republic Services – will be only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The change from the twice weekly service was made earlier this spring as the Ashland Board of Aldermen approved a new contract which would keep the monthly rate for trash service the same for the next 12 months.
“As we are seeing increases in sewer rates, we didn’t want to hit local residents with an increase in trash pickup at the same time,” said Ashland Mayor Gene Rhorer.
If residents think one trash bin being picked up once weekly is not enough capacity for their family’s trash, there are a pair of options:
• They can get an additional trash bin for an additional $6 per month.
• They can make better use of the free recycling bins located in the vacant lot on Redbud Street behind City Hall. The recycling bins can be used for paper, cardboard, glass, metal and plastic containers.
City officials say that there have been numerous calls to city hall as some residents are confused about what day they will have their trash picked up. Adding to that confusion was the Memorial Day weekend – which moved trash pickup back one day this week.
