Boone County Fair President Jeff Cook says all systems are go and the annual Boone County Fair will open this Saturday.

That might be the standard thing for a county fair organizer to say – except this will not be a normal Boone County Fair.

For the first time 25 years, the Boone County Fair will be held outside of Columbia – 23 miles to the north, in fact, in Sturgeon.

But Cook says the location is a good one.

“We have had great help from the folks in Sturgeon,” Cook said Monday. “They have all welcomed us with open arms.”

Cook said instead of show arenas for livestock, the fair will have two large tents to provide shade for the show arena. They will also have 2,400 ton or rock and gravel in the area – which will be necessary in case of rain.

“We can’t plan Mother Nature,” Cook said, “but we are prepared.”
