Baby Maklyn isn’t even one and she has already had two major surgeries, one was open-heart. These are just the first of many Maklyn will face as she grows. Maklyn was born five weeks premature alongside her twin brother, Mavryk, on December 16, 2017. Shortly after, Maklyn was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect known as Tetraology of Fallot meaning she has four abnormalities in the formation of her heart. She can’t oxygenate her blood at high enough levels leaving her with a blue-tint and shortness of breath. At just seven months old, on June 21, Maklyn had open-heart surgery. Doctors called the surgery successful with her oxygenation now up to 96%. Maklyn’s road, already a challenge, has another nasty hill called Lymphedema Distichiasis.

She has a cleft palate that will need repaired and will likely require surgery on her eye. That doctor’s appointment is set for this month.

What this little fighter doesn’t know, is some big fighters are in her corner. The local Hooligan Charitable Riding Group will hold a Poker Run on Saturday, September 15, 2018 to raise money for Maklyn and her family. The ride will leave Woody’s in Ashland at 11 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. Don’t play poker or ride a bike? An auction and raffle will be held after the Poker Run. These funds will go to care for the entire family.
