There will be plenty of fun and holiday magic this weekend – and you won’t have to drive out of town to enjoy the fun.

“This weekend is a good way to kick off the holiday season in Southern Boone and a good reminder to shop local,” said Southern Boone Chamber of Commerce President Wade Middaugh.

The fun begins on Friday evening when Santa Claus arrives at the SoBoCo Primary School at 5:30 p.m. Children are invited to parade with Santa to the annual tree lighting at the Edwards Jones offices across from Ashland City Hall.

The tree lighting ceremony will include carolers from SoBoCo High School singing many favorites. The lighting of the tree will be about 6:20 p.m.

A number of events will be held on Saturday, including a breakfast with Santa, the annual Boy Scout craft show and special events at the Southern Boone Library as well as the Mid-Missouri Arts Alliance and various retailers around Ashland. T

he tree lighting is an event sponsored by the Ashland Park Board with an assist from the Southern Boone Chamber. Breakfast with Santa, at the Legion Hall is sponsored by the Chamber.

The annual Hartsburg Tree Lighting will be held Sunday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.

“We had a big turnout last year and we hope we have good weather and plenty of people this year for the tree lighting and other events,” Middaugh said.
