Southern Boone High School’s Homecoming week continues to evolve and get more students involved every year, said high school principal Dale Van Deven.

“We have spread out some of the evening events as the schedule this year was very crowded for sports and other activities,” Van Deven said.

One new part of homecoming that has not changed is the student fund raising that takes place throughout the week. While the homecoming king and queen are still elected by the students, the top fund raisers and their causes are recognized during the homecoming ceremony.

“The fund raising efforts creates awareness in the students,” Van Deven said. “I think students create awareness in the community as well.”

A few of the fundraising efforts include raising money for Samaritan’s Purse to help fund supplies for the Hurricane Irma victims and the Juvenile Arthritis Foundation.

But Homecoming Week is about having fun as well.
