A large contingent of emergency responders raced to Ashland Villa Monday afternoon to evacuate the building.

However, the haze that greeted them was eventually deemed to not be a fire.

A number of volunteer fire fighters from Southern Boone Fire district, Ashland Police, MU Health EMTs and a Missouri State Trooper all assisted evacuating Ashland Villa just after 3:15 p.m. as fire crews looked for a fire in the roof of the building.

Nearly as big of a concern was the heat and humidity that awaited residents as they moved outside.

Fire officials considered blocking Henry Clay and moving residents to Ashland Health Care across the street, however, it was realized that would not be necessary as the situation was safe enough to move back inside about 3:40 p.m.
