The Southern Boone Marching Eagles will host their first competition this Saturday with bands stepping off in the parade down Broadway at 9 a.m. Field competition will follow at the SoBoCo athletic field on Saturday afternoon.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. Bands will march from the Broadway and Henry Clay intersection and march west to Main Street, then turn north towards the high school. Southern Boone director of bands Andrew Marjamaa said the best place to watch the parade will be near the Ashland City Hall area on either side of Broadway.

The competition will then move inside the high school gym as three groups will compete in color guard and drum line competition at about 11 a.m.

The field competition will begin about noon. SoBoCo will play at about 2 p.m. Admission to hear and see the bands is $5.

Bands competing will include: Blair Oaks, North Callaway, Bunceton, Chamois, South Callaway, Centralia, Keyetsville, Centralia and others.

According to Marjamaa, the contest will enable SoBoCo band members the opportunity to host its first contest, as well as learn from watching other bands.

“While we won’t be in the competition, we will march and perform,” Marjamaa said, citing a tradition in which the host band does not typically compete for honors. Trophies will be given away in each classification for parade and field competitions, as well as a grand champion trophy for combined scores.
