The Southern Boone School board was scheduled to meet twice this week – once on Tuesday night for a budget work session and again on Thursday for the board’s regularly scheduled June meeting. And the news for both is very positive, according to SoBoCo Superintendent Chris Felmlee.

Concern over the next school year’s budget has eased as the district will end the current fiscal year with $200,000-$250,000 in the bank. That will allow the district to budget as high as 20% for a fund balance, while still deficit spend in the next fiscal year.

The district is purchasing three buses, will fund a start-up wrestling program, with a number of high one-time costs, three new assistant principals and an additional kindergarten teacher.

“We are taking on a lot in the budget,” Felmlee noted, “but that’s due to the growth in the district.”
