An Ashland man was in serious condition at University Hospital after his car was struck Friday night near the Isle of Capri casino in Boonville.

Donald Wood, 73, of Ashland had stopped his car on the railroad tracks near the casino at about 8:25 p.m. A Union Pacific train headed east-bound crashed into Wood’s 2002 Ford Mustang, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

Wood was taken to University Hospital via the Staff for Life helicopter.

Roger Stagner, 46, or Orrick was driving the train and did not suffer any injuries.

Investigators said the area that 73-year-old Donald Wood was struck was not a designated railway crossing. West said the train was going 45 mph at the time of the crash.

Officials believe Wood may have been lost on his way to the Isle of Capri Casino.
