A multi-jurisdictional training event will be held at Southern Boone Elementary School on Monday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.

The drill will involve an active shooter, but with a twist – there will be local “actors” involved and the drill will involve officers and emergency responders from around the county.

SoBoCo school resource officer Trevor Fowler is one of the principal facilitators of the drill.

“This will be an event that starts in the afternoon at the University of Missouri,” Fowler said, “and will eventually move down Highway 63 to the Elementary School here. The scenario is very realistic and will test the skills of a variety of emergency responders.”

Fowler said what makes this training session different is that the emergency responders from different agencies will be forced to work together. “We will also have ‘victims’ being transported to the hospitals and they will be a part of the scenario,” Fowler said.

Fowler added that the full-scale exercise would include local ‘actors’ with “age appropriate” children playing the part of students.

“These things can get your adrenaline pumping and we want to make sure any hostage-style situation is not intimidating to young children,” Fowler said.
